UNITED BANK FOR AFRICA (UBA) BANK CELEBRATES WOMEN DAY BY DONATING BEDDING MATERIALS TO TEMEKE HOSPITAL

The United Bank for Africa Tanzania (UBA) has celebrated the International Women’s Day by donating 100 bed sheets to Temeke Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam being one of the banks Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in supporting the surrounding community.

The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Investment Angela Kariuki, Temeke Member of Parliament Abdallah Mtolea and the Hospitals Senior Consultant Dr Amaan Malima received the donation of the bed sheets on behalf of the hospital.

Speaking after receiving the donations, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Investment Angela Kariuki said the International Women’s Day is a special day for women to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. For that matter, I am very happy to learn that the United Bank for Africa Tanzania women staff have contributed their own funds that they have used to purchase the donations of bed sheets we are receiving today. You could have used the money on your celebrations but they decided to and celebrate with the less privileged and sick in this hospital. That is something that must be emulated by others and to me you have set a very good example and I must congratulate you for that, Minister Kariuki said.

The minister added that women are important pillars for our family and nation. You must always work hard and set goals in order to be successful. In addition, it is good to understand that women have the same talents and ability to work just like your counterpart men but is good to stay focused and set your time properly in order to continue being successful on your careers, said Kariuki. Adding, “I call upon UBA Tanzania and other stakeholders to continue supporting us our communities and especially in health sector so that we grow as one nation.

The Temeke Referral Hospital Hospitals Senior Consultant Dr Amaan Malima appreciated the banks donation saying that the hospital has been experiencing shortage of bed sheets for quite long time. ‘Your donation has come at very right time our hospital has been going a difficult time due to bed sheets. We receive large number of patients and so the number cannot match on the bed sheets we have. We cherish you danations and wish you good luck on your activities and we welcome you again for any other donations in future, Dr Malima said.

On his part, UBA Bank Tanzania Chief Operating Officer Flavia Kiyanga said that giving back to the community has been one of the banks’ long time initiatives. The surrounding society means a lot to us, by extending our hands to less privileged is our concern and this time we have decided to support Temeke Referral Hospital putting in mind that some of the patients admitted at this hospital have no close relatives to support them and therefore donating and visiting them will make them feel just like the others.

Kiyanga said that the donation of the bed sheets has been as result of UBA Tanzania women who have decided to contribute their own funds to come and celebrate the women’s International Day by donating bed sheets to this hospital. We are happy that we have managed to fulfill one of our longest commitments and most important we thank the Temeke Referral Hospital for good treatment they have offered to us, said Kiyanga.
