2016 Amref’s Stand Up for Africa Mothers Charity Walk

Amref Health Africa once again in Partnership with Bank M has announced joint efforts for the ‘Stand up for African Mothers’, a programme which has been running for the past 5 years with the main aim of training midwives for safe delivery.

Speaking while announcing the Stand Up for African Mothers 2016 fundraising event, Amref Health Africa Tanzania  Country Director Dr. Florence Temu said , this year the SUAM fundraising will be held via a charity walk which will take place on Saturday 05th November 2016 starting and finishing at the Green grounds, Oysterbay.

“The Stand Up for African Mothers is an international programme launched in October 2011 to draw attention to the plight of African mothers and to mobilize citizens worldwide, to support African Mothers get the basic medical care they need during pregnancy and childbirth.

In 2016/17 the programme aims to raise a minimum of Tsh 500 million to support training of 50 nurse midwives at Certificate level and upgrade skills of about 400 nurse midwives at Diploma level. This will eventually contribute towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality in Africa. Let us Stand up for African Mothers”.

She also thanked Bank M for once again coming on board as the main sponsor. “Bank M has consistently supported this programme for three years.  We are extremely grateful to Bank M for their ongoing support, solid contribution to improving the lives of Tanzanians across the country and for partnering with us to help create lasting health change in Africa.” Affirmed Dr. Temu.

With the theme “Train midwives for Safe Delivery!” The WALK will be graced by the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
