TUNA WEZA BAND – afrofusion – 22.30
The Dar es Salaam based group started in 2008, with ten musicians, the
majority of whom are physically disabled. They chose the name Tunaweza, to make
a point – it roughly translates as; “we are able”. Masoud Wanani, the group's
founder and director says “Our aims are to help ourselves by earning a living
through doing something creative and expressing ourselves. At the same time we
can educate the youth about important issues like HIV or the need to respect
albinos.” Tuna Weza perform an eclectic mix of local styles with an overriding
positive and uplifting energy.
MZUNGU
KICHAA – Urban / World –
23.30
In contrast to Mzungu Kichaa’s last acoustic performance, the group will
be performing their standard up beat set featuring songs from tuko
pamoja and his most recent release, hustle
and relax. As Mzungu Kichaa is
back on studio composing and practicing, attentive ears will be able to hear
new unreleased songs. The band is preparing for their tour to Germany and Denmark
this autumn and will be testing some new tricks at THE BEAT. Get ready for a
high tempo, full-energy performance.
