The President’s Manufacturer of the Year Awards (PMAYA) 2016 winners have been finalized yesterday in Dar
es salaam during the prestigious awards ceremony which was graced by the Vice President of Tanzania Hon.
Samia Suluhu Hassan as a chief guest.
The event revealed the 2016 winners being Tanzania Breweries, other companies scooped the top most
positions were Kioo Ltd and Mufindi Paper Mills. Others are Petrolube, Alliance Insurance Corporation,
Hanspaul Automechs, Nyanza Mines Tz, Tanpak Tissues, DPI Simba, Alliance Life Assurance, Prisons
Corporation Sole, Chemi Cotex Ind, Said Salim Bakhresa, Jambo Plastics, Nida Textiles, Ital shoe, Dharam
Singh Hanspaul & sons and Tanelec.
The President’s Manufacturer of the year Awards is an annual event that is organized by the Confederation of
Tanzania Industries (CTI) to award the outstanding manufacturers of the preceding year. The Awards are
given to companies in small, medium and large manufacturer categories that exhibit a high degree of
economic impact. Bank M Tanzania plc is the main sponsor of this year’s event for a second year in a row.
Speaking during the event, the Vice President congratulated CTI for the initiative and mostly by inviting the
non members to participate this year as well as Bank M for sponsoring the event. In addition, Hon. Samia
assured CTI and the stakeholders that the government is always ready to work with the private sector in order
to boost the industrial sector.
She also commented on the challenges facing the industrial sector and assured
CTI that the government is working on the challenges to find out solutions ” I fully understand there are
several challenges facing the industrial sector such as tax issues on raw material, infrastructure etc, but be
assured that the government is working on them”, said the Vice president.
Speaking on behalf of Bank M, the Deputy CEO Ms. Jacqueline Woiso expressed the Bank’s satisfaction to the
whole process, “we congratulate the president for your efforts to boost the economy, we also congratulate CTI
for this initiative, as well as the winners. PMAYA plays a central role in the economic growth of Tanzania.
By
recognizing the industrial sector contribution, we believe that they will be encouraged to do even more. By so
doing, such industries will prosper increase productivity as well as its contribution to the social welfare of the
people by creating more employment opportunities and most importantly boosting our economy.”
Commenting on the event success, the CTI Executive Director, Leodeger Tenga, said the companies
competing in this competition will enable the East Africans business community to expand the market space,
and make the region more competitive via larger economies of scale. “Congratulations to all the winners”, Mr.
Tenga said.
Apart from Bank M, other sponsors, who have joined hands with CTI in this year’s event include GIZ, Motisun
Group, Alaf, ITV, The Guardian, Nipashe, Radio One, Serena Hotel, Cocacola, Mwananchi, The Citizen,
Siemens and Clouds Media.
