Customers are about to enjoy massive discounts of up to 60% on smartphones from Tanzania’s
biggest online shopping platform, Jumia as they launch a new annual event called Jumia Mobile
Week. On top of amazing savings, all smartphones sold during the campaign will be loaded
with up to 18GB of free internet as the leading digital lifestyle company, Tigo Tanzania teams up
with Jumia for the online retail event.
At the launch of the first annual Jumia Mobile Week in partnership with Tigo Tanzania, Jumia
released a report on the Tanzanian Mobile Sector which revealed that 83% of Tanzanians
accessed Jumia website with their mobile phones versus 17% on Computers in 2017. This
confirms the well known fact that most Tanzanians are increasingly leapfrogging conventional
computing and utilizing mobile technologies in their daily routines instead.
Announcing the exciting partnership in Dar es Salaam, Tigo’s Corporate Communications
Manager, Woinde Shisael said that the Mobile Week which starts from the 24 th - 30 th of March is
the best time of the year for anyone to purchase a smartphone because the devices are going
to be available at rock bottom prices. Each smartphone also comes with free internet of up to
18GB from Tigo.
‘Tigo is at the helm of digital lifestyle transformation. We aim to increase the smartphone
penetration in the country while ensuring that all our customers have access to and enjoy the
best and the latest digital experience. The best digital experience starts with access to the latest
devices, and that’s why through this partnership with Jumia we will ensure that everyone can
get a brand new smartphone of their choice at the lowest price possible, while also enjoying free
guaranteed internet of up to 18GB depending on the type of smartphone they purchase,’ she
said.
Elaborating on how one can access the smartphone offers, Jumia Tanzania’s Chief Executive
Officer, Zadok Prescott said that customers should simply visit www.jumia.co.tz where they can
review the widest range of smartphone from the widest range of seller in a single place from
anywhere with an internet connection, then select the device for them and order for a
smartphone of their choice. Additionally, feature phone users who currently have no access to
the internet will also be able to make their orders by dialing 0800 710024 toll free to order by
phone.
‘I urge everyone to check out the unbelievable offers that we will have on all kinds of
smartphones and devices during Mobile Week. We are very proud to be bringing together
some of the leading lights in the Mobile Industry as partners for this event, including Tigo,
Samsung, Tecno and Infinix amongst other well-known mobile brands to pioneer this new
annual event in Tanzania, that we believe will become an annual landmark for Mobile sales, in
the same way that Black Friday is before the Christmas season.
With our joint efforts we are
able bring never-before seen deals and offers to Tanzanian consumers – including 3G
smartphones for less than 50,000TSH and 4G smartphones for less than 150,000TSH!”.’ Zadok
said.
‘Customers can choose to either come and pick up their phones from our pick-up stations or
give details of where they want the phones delivered and we will deliver the smartphone right to
their doorsteps. Customers will only pay for the smartphones of their choice either through Tigo
Pesa or by cash immediately after the smartphones are delivered, so there is no risk to
customers.’ he further added.
The continuing growth of smartphones is providing new opportunities for e-commerce platforms
like Jumia to provide relevant services to meet Tanzanians’ needs. Recently, the number of
mobile subscribers in Tanzania has been drastically increasing to reach over 40 million. That
went simultaneously with the increase in number of internet users now standing at 23 million.
“There is a huge growth happening in terms of the number of people who have access to
devices, most importantly smartphones. This is a critical step in the development of the mobile
industry, through the low penetration of devices is still a challenge. Jumia is however committed
to provide more affordable smartphones to all Tanzanians, particularly during the Mobile Week,”
Zadok concluded.
