Tigo provides digital education resources in Mwanza

Mwanza 21st September,  2017- Leading digital lifestyle company, Tigo Tanzania has today provided digital education content to three (3) secondary schools in Mwanza as part of its Tigo e-schools program and the Tigo Fiesta 2017 – Tumekusomaa cultural festivities.
   
As part of its Tumekusoma (‘we understand you’) initiative, which underscores Tigo’s dynamic reputation as the telecom brand that best understands and responds to the needs of its customers, Tigo will be providing the digital education content to 52 secondary schools located in 12 of the 15 regions where the Tigo Fiesta 2017 –Tumekusomaa festival will take place.

Speaking during the handover event at Mwanza Secondary School, Tigo Zonal Director for Lake Zone, Ali Maswanya said that the digital drive would enhance the learning experience of students and prepare them to be part of the global digital village. 
‘We are living in a digital world and Tigo e-schools project is equipping students to be part of the digital world,’ Maswanya said, revealing that the other secondary schools in Mwanza that have benefitted from the Tigo E-schools project are Pamba Secondary School and Mirongo Secondary School. 

In 2016, Tigo entered into a partnership with the Ministry of Communications, Works and Infrastructure to facilitate the roll-out of internet access points in the country’s secondary schools to complement the Government’s eSchools project for a period of 2 years.

As part of the agreement, the Ministry identified and provided a list of schools without computer labs to be connected and also guided the implementation of the project. Tigo sponsored the infrastructural development in the schools across the country, including wiring classrooms and installation of wireless LAN with internet access points. The third phase of this project is the current installation of learning materials that students can access directly from the computer labs, thus digitizing their learning experience.

“Through our corporate responsibility initiative, we are now implementing the Government’s vision to transform the country into a knowledge-based economy by the year 2025.  Our company is committed to ensure that most of the secondary schools have access to the internet in Tanzania, and also to learning materials so that they can be amply prepared for opportunities that come with the digital transformation that is currently sweeping the globe”, Tigo’s Lake Zone Director said.

Theschools that will benefit from the project are Arusha Day, Ilbouru and Arusha Secondary Schools in Arusha region; Mwanza, Pamba and Mirongo Secondary Schools in Mwanza region; Tabora Girls and Milambo Secondary Schools in Tabora; and Mpwapwa Secondary School in Dodoma.

Others are Iringa and Kleruu Secondary School in Iringa region; Matalawe and Songea Girls Secondary Schoosl in Songea Region; Njombe and Mpechi Secondary School in Njombe region; Morogoro Municipal and Mzumbe Secondary Schools in Morogoro; and Handeni and Shemsanga Secondary Schools in Tanga.
Other schools to benefit from the digital education tools provided through Tigo e-Schools’ project are,  Lyamungo Secondary School and Machame Girls Secondary School in Moshi; Newala Day Secondary School and Masasi Day Secondary School in Mtwara while in Dar es  Salaam the schools to benefit include  Mbagala, Kibamba, Benjamin Mkapa and Makumbusho Secondary Schools.  

‘Tigo is proud to be partnering with the Ministry of Communications, Works and Infrastructure and the schools to enable the youth and the wider communities to tap into the global mainstream of information and knowledge, where they will learn, expand their creativity and collaborate with peers across the world,’ Maswanya noted.

The e-Shools project is one of Tigo’s strategic social investment projects and to date Tigo has connected over 52 public secondary schools with internet and provided 77 computers to secondary and higher learning institutions across the country.
